Harvey A. Shapiro is the Research Economist for the Honolulu Board of REALTORS® in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has occupied this position since becoming a part-timer in 2001. Prior to 2001, he was the full-time Research Chief at the Board since 1991. He is responsible for preparing all research material for the 6,000+ members of the Board, including the Monthly Statistical Report and the quarterly housing report, Oahu Housing Trends, which is mailed to all members. In 2008, he started a real estate blog on the Honolulu Advertiser website (see link below) which is widely read and quoted.
Mr. Shapiro is an experienced labor Arbitrator with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Washington, D.C. Before moving to Hawaii in 1986, he served as a Mediator, Fact Finder and Arbitrator for the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. He was recently appointed as Arbitrator for the Hawaii Region of the Social Security Administration.
In addition to his leadership role in the Hawaii Economic Association (Board of Directors, VP-Programs, former President), Harvey is, or has been, involved in many community activities, including the Governor's Highway Safety Council (chair 1999 - 2003), Friends of Hanauma Bay, the Waikiki Aquarium and the Sony Open golf tournament.
